When you order imagery without clipping, you receive the full scene and the full scene footprint counts towards your usage. The size of a full scene therefore determines how much a no-clip download costs you.

The figures below are approximate — the exact size of each image varies.

PlanetScope scene sizes

• Dove Classic (PS2) — 25.0 × 11.5 = approx. 287.5 km²
• Dove-R (PS2.SD) — 25.0 × 23.0 = approx. 575 km²
• SuperDove (PSB.SD) — 32.5 × 19.6 = approx. 637 km²

SkySat

• SkySat Collect — no fixed size. A collect is stitched from many scenes along an imaging strip, covering a swath of roughly 5.73 km and running at least 5 km long, so the area depends on the length of the strip.
• SkySat Scene — 1 × 2.5 = approx. 2.5 km²

Your plan is shown in your Planet account. Plans on the current packages are charged in monitoring credits. Plans bought before the change are charged against download quota in square kilometres.

If your plan uses monitoring credits

Credits for ordering are consumed based on the total area you order, so a full scene consumes credits for its entire footprint.

Credit rates vary with data recency — the more recent the imagery when your request is fulfilled, the more credits it consumes. The same full scene can therefore consume very different numbers of credits depending on how recent the data is.

Clipping an order to your Area of Interest reduces the area delivered, and therefore the credits consumed.

Monitoring credits apply to PlanetScope products. SkySat is purchased through Planet Select rather than metered in credits.

If your plan uses download quota (sq km)

Applies to plans bought before Planet moved to monitoring credits. Your quota determines the volume of imagery you can download, measured in square kilometres, and a full-size download deducts the whole scene footprint.
