How to Load WMTS Basemap False-color Visualizations in QGIS, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS 10.X Desktop

False-color indices visualizations are available only on Surface Reflectance Basemaps. Currently the following band combinations and indices available:

Indices {index value}
Red-Green-Blue rgb
Color-infrared cir
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index ndvi
Normalized Difference Water Index ndwi
Visual Atmosphere Resistance Index vari
Modified Soil-adjusted Vegetation Index msavi2
Modified Triangular Vegetation Index mtvi2
Triangular Greenness Index tgi

 

To add a WMTS layer to QGIS:

  • Launch QGIS.
  • Click on Open Data Source Manager icon, then add WMS/WMTS.
  • In the "WMTS" dialog box, click New.
  • Give the service a name in the Name Text Box.
  • Insert the URL in the designated text box following the structure provided below for false-color visualization:
  • Click OK. Click Connect.
  • In the Browser pane, click WMS/WMTS.
  • Click the WMTS service and drag and drop it onto the map view.

 To add a WMTS layer to ArcGIS Pro:

  • Launch ArcGIS Pro.
  • Open the Connection drop-down list on the Insert tab.
  • Click New WMTS Server to make a new connection.
  • Insert the URL into the Server URL Text Box, following the structure given below for false-color visualization, and then click OK:
  • In the Catalog pane, click Servers.
  • Double click on the Entire Catalog on api.planet.com.wmts.
  • Click the WMTS service and drag and drop it onto the map.

To add a WMTS layer to ArcGIS 10.X Desktop:

  • Launch ArcGIS 10.X Desktop.
  • Click Add data or in the Catalog window, double-click GIS Servers.
  • Click Add WMTS Server to make a new connection.
  • Insert the URL into the URL Text Box following the structure provided below for false-color visualization, and then click 'Get Layers':
  • Click OK.
  • In the Catalog pane, click GIS Servers.
  • Double click on the Entire Catalog on api.planet.com.
  • Click the WMTS service and drag and drop it onto the Data View.
