Using Planet GeoTIFFs in QGIS

QGIS is a free, open-source GIS application available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD. To load Planet data, drag and drop the files into the QGIS layer panel or map view. QGIS recognizes them automatically and positions the rasters correctly without further input.

To open the raster properties, right-click the layer. The layer properties offer several options to configure, including the following:

  • View information such as the coordinate reference system (CRS), extent, unit, and compression method.
  • Change the band configuration in the Symbology tab to suit your needs.
  • View the distribution of bands or colors in the raster data in the Histogram tab. To generate the histogram, select Compute Histogram.

For more guidance, see the QGIS documentation.
