Streaming imagery in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS is charged exactly as it is in Planet Explorer. Nothing specific applies to one GIS package over another.
Mosaic tiles sit in a pyramid ranging from zoom levels 0 to 18, and each tile loaded is 256 by 256 pixels. Every tile you load is counted, at every zoom level. If you return to a tile you have already loaded it is usually served from your cache and not counted again; once it clears from the cache, loading it counts again. The tile services advertise a 24-hour cache time in their response headers, but how long a tile is actually kept depends on your browser or GIS client.
Which applies to you
Your plan is shown in your Planet account. Plans on the current packages are charged in monitoring credits. Plans bought before the change are charged as tile views.
If your plan uses monitoring credits
Each tile you stream consumes monitoring credits. On Insights Flex you pay a streaming licence for every tile view. On Premium plans the streaming licence is covered by the per square kilometre area fee, but basic platform actions are charged per tile streamed. On Reserved plans, basic platform actions are included in the area licensing fee under a reasonable-use policy.
If your plan uses tile view quota
Applies to plans bought before Planet moved to monitoring credits. Each tile loaded is counted against your tile view quota.
