What Should I Buy?

How do I monitor change over time?

Monitoring Plan

Planet's monitoring plan provides organizations with near-daily, high-resolution satellite imagery to observe and analyze changes on Earth's surface. This service is powered by the PlanetScope constellation, which consists of nearly 200 small satellites, known as Doves, that collectively image the entire landmass of the Earth every day.

Monitoring is useful if you need:

  • Near-Daily Global Coverage: The PlanetScope constellation captures images of the Earth's land surface daily, offering consistent and up-to-date visual data .

  • Medium-Resolution Imagery: Images are captured at a resolution of approximately 3.7 meters per pixel, enabling detailed observation of land features.

  • Multispectral Data: PlanetScope satellites collect imagery in four multispectral bands—Red, Green, Blue, and Near-Infrared—facilitating various analyses, including vegetation health and land use changes.

  • Extensive Historical Archive: Users have access to an image archive dating back to 2009, allowing for temporal analyses and change over time assessment.

  • Cloud-Native Platform: Imagery and data are accessible through Planet's cloud-based platform, enabling seamless integration into user workflows and applications.

  • Flexible Access Options: Data can be accessed via Planet Explorer and APIs, catering to a range of user needs and technical proficiencies.

Monitoring is appropriate for various sectors such as:

  • Agriculture: Monitoring crop health, planning harvests, and managing resources.

  • Forestry: Tracking deforestation, forest degradation, and supporting conservation efforts.

  • Urban Planning: Observing urban expansion, infrastructure development, and land use changes.

  • Disaster Response: Assessing areas affected by natural disasters like floods, wildfires, and hurricanes to aid in relief efforts.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Detecting changes in ecosystems, monitoring water bodies, and studying climate change impacts.
