crop images before download

Hi,

I'm doing research work at university and I would need some additional information about downloading and usage of satellite images. I'm interested if it's possible to crop images before download and then download them. In that way, whole process of downloading cropped images would be faster, memory and computer would be less loaded. I don't know if there is a way through API or if it is even possible, but I would like to avoid download of entire image and manual crop.

Any information would be useful.

    Hi Daniel,

Thank you for writing in Community.

Please take a look at our github repo for some notebooks on clipping:

    https://github.com/planetlabs/notebooks/tree/master/jupyter-notebooks/data-api-tutorials

However, the clipping endpoint used in these notebooks has been deprecated and we are in the midst of releasing a new one which will integrated in the GUI.

If you do run into any issues with clipping, please write to support@planet.com and i would be happy to help you out there.

    Best Regards,

    Pooja

When will a new one be released will integrated in the GUI?

If I understood correctly, it is currently not possible to download a smaller area than the tiles?

  • Hi Daniel,

We are hoping to have this integrated in the upcoming months.

It is also possible for you to use the new version of our orders system which also allows clipping:

    https://developers.planet.com/docs/orders/

Please take a look and let me know if you need any help.

    Best Regards,

    Pooja
