The removal of atmospheric artifacts increases the consistency and comparability between images acquired at different times. Thus, the surface reflectance product can be leveraged to normalize scenes across time & sensor and is an ideal product to be used for vegetation index retrieval, change detection and mosaic applications. The correction is applied to the standard Planet Analytic Product (Radiance) and is available for all 4-band orthorectified scenes produced by radiometrically calibrated sun-synchronous orbit Dove satellites. We employ the 6SV radiative transfer code which involves the use of auxiliary data (MODIS NRT aerosol optical thickness, water vapor, ozone) to correct for molecular scattering and absorption by atmospheric constituents.
