How to load WMTS Basemap false-color visualizations in QGIS, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS 10.X Desktop

False-color indices visualizations are available only on Surface Reflectance basemaps. Currently the following band combinations and indices available:

To add a WMTS layer to QGIS:

  • Launch QGIS
  • Click on Open Data Source Manager icon, then add WMS/WMTS
  • In the “WMTS” dialog box, click New.
  • Give the service a name in the Name Text Box.
  • In the URL Text Box insert URL following the structure given below for the false-color visualization:
  • Click OK. Click Connect.
  • In the Browser pane, click WMS/WMTS.
  • Click the WMTS service and drag and drop it onto the map view.

 To add a WMTS layer to ArcGIS Pro:

  • Launch ArcGIS Pro
  • Open the Connection drop-down list on the Insert tab
  • Click New WMTS Server to make a new connection.
  • In the Server URL Text Box insert URL following the structure given below for the false-color visualization, then click OK.
  • In the Catalog pane, click Servers.
  • Double click on the Entire Catalog on api.planet.com.wmts
  • Click the WMTS service and drag and drop it onto the map.

To add a WMTS layer to ArcGIS 10.X Desktop:

  • Launch ArcGIS 10.X Desktop
  • Click Add data or in the Catalog window, double-click GIS Servers.
  • Click Add WMTS Server to make a new connection.
  • In the URL Text Box insert URL following the structure given below for the false-color visualization, then click Get Layers.
  • Click OK.
  • In the Catalog pane, click GIS Servers.
  • Double click on the Entire Catalog on api.planet.com
  • Click the WMTS service and drag and drop it onto the Data View.
